King Mahosat organized the army to be organized, have a comprehensive strategy, and prepare enough food for the battle. For the war with King Chola of the Upper Panchal Kingdom, King Mahosat used wisdom to resolve all the obstacles that arose peacefully.
Chapter 8 - Mahasatha suppresses the idea of empire
Because of Mahasatha's sacred advice, King Vitehara transformed the kingdom of Mithila into a prosperous country - the people lived in harmony and had a good life under the shadow of wisdom. Mahasatha, having understood the situation, urged King Vitehara to expand the palace, build high and strong defensive walls, dig moats around the kingdom, dig large ponds to prevent water from flowing, and repair old schools and build strong gates to protect the enemy from attacking. As for the soldiers and officers, he arranged for them to be provided with sufficient food and supplies, and their families, to show their loyalty to the kingdom, including giving them valuable decorations according to their rank. In particular, for the merchants, he ordered them to prepare good trading places, build residences for merchants from various districts, and give high titles to merchants with important merits to help society further. Not only that, he told to expand the places of instruction, training, and wisdom for citizens and officials at all levels to know the laws of the kingdom. Create places for Brahmin monks, nuns, and monks to teach the rules of the Dharma and the Dharma. And the king did not forget to spend his wealth on the health of the army, the people, improving the entertainment of people and animals, arranging the villages of civil servants, and the people with comfort, building infrastructure connecting the various districts to the kingdom, etc. This wisdom of organizing the kingdom made the officials, officials, soldiers, citizens, and monks born with pure minds, putting their bodies and minds and lives to sacrifice for the benefit of the kingdom of Mithila, everyone without any hostility to the laws of the kingdom.
1. The sage Kevadha Brahma Lamopajas came to the northern kingdom of the Chola Kingdom because, according to the Kevadha Brahma, the Chola Kingdom had used military power to subdue the 101 kingdoms under its control. The Kevadha Brahma and the Chola Kingdom agreed that one day they would organize a ritual to wash away the food and poison the wine of the 101 kings, and then take the wealth and power of those kingdoms and become the king of the entire continent. Not satisfied, the Kevadha Brahma instructed the Chola Kingdom and the 101 kings of the Chola Kingdom to raise an army of about 18 akkadaphinis to finally conquer the kingdom of Mithilaka. King Mahosat understood the war strategy of King Choni through the instigating words of the Brahman through the faithful messenger Seksarika, who brought the news to Rayarap in detail. This news made King Vitehara and the four monks panic and prepare to escape safely, not worrying about solving the crisis of the kingdom. King Mahosat guaranteed that he would solve this problem without putting the army in danger and causing disaster to the people and the kingdom.
2- King Mahosat's wise measures against the enemy
King Mahosat, dressed as a general, ordered the defense forces to prepare a large amount of food and to have soldiers guard the gates of the kingdom and prepare military equipment for the defense towers without delay. When the Chola army and its 101 followers surrounded the kingdom of Mithila at a distance of 7 yojanas, the king Mahāsatha announced a festival in the kingdom, where the soldiers and people sang and danced happily, without worrying about any danger. This news made the Chola king and his followers incomprehensible, and the king Mahāsatha raised his army to attack the kingdom of Mithila. The king Mahāsatha ordered his soldiers to climb the ramparts, throw stones and spears at the Chola army, close the gates of the kingdom tightly, and have his soldiers shout in mockery, "You are hungry or not, but you are trying to fight, you will eat delicious food together in the kingdom." The Chola king's soldiers were discouraged by such mockery and lost their strength to fight. The Chola king ordered the army to retreat for a while and asked the Brahmin priest Kevadda for advice on a new strategy to break the spirit of the Mahosa army. The priest advised him to change the strategy to a threatening strategy in the form of a battle plan because of the abundance of food.
Then Chola wrote a letter with arrows to shoot at the entire perimeter of the Mithila kingdom. That is, he would drain the kingdom of water, cut off water, cut off firewood, and starve the people if they did not surrender. Mahosa showed his power to fight the enemy by having his army scatter the green rice fields along the fort and having them cut firewood into high mounds that protruded from the walls of the kingdom. Until the idea could not break the spirit of unity of the Mahosa army, the Chola king and his entourage decided to lead the army back to their own kingdom.
