These four dhammas were revealed to teach people to be careful not to let themselves fall into danger. Every person, even in the whole country, no matter how much wealth and fame they have, if they are only interested in women, alcohol, gambling, and factions, they are a wicked person and will see the results of destruction. Because these four causes cause a lot of wealth to be destroyed, and time to be wasted. For example, if a man is infatuated with a woman, he always goes to her and takes her wealth to please her, and over time he becomes a diplomat and gives up his job. If a government official sometimes goes to work and sometimes does not go. In the end, there is no advancement in position, sometimes there is a conflict with others because of that woman. In the end, wealth, fame, and reputation are destroyed and he becomes a person with no hope in life.
If we can implement the above principles, we will definitely have four kinds of happiness as follows:
Four kinds of happiness in the household
1. Happiness comes from having wealth
2. Happiness comes from spending wealth
3. Happiness comes from being debt-free
4. Happiness comes from working without guilt or engaging in business without guilt
These four characteristics demonstrate the importance of the economic element, namely having wealth through one's own efforts, spending one's wealth, not being in debt, doing business properly according to economic rules, not violating state laws, and not oppressing others. Those who have wealth are always calm, using their wealth to support their family, and are always happy without having to borrow money from others to spend. And the teacher will definitely be wealthy. On the contrary, a family that is wealthy will not last long because of four reasons.
A wealthy family will not last long because of four reasons:
1- Things are lost and not found.
2- Old things are worn out and cannot be repaired.
3- Not being prudent in using wealth.
4- Having a man or woman who is not morally responsible in the family.
The above four are the causes of destruction. No matter how wealthy the family is, if the people in the family lack economic resources or lack morality, do not care about lost things, damaged things that can be repaired and used again, do not bother to let them go, use their wealth carelessly, do not know what to do next, especially the head of the family has no manners, order (morality), and only lead to further destruction. Not only the property is furniture, even non-furnished things such as houses, land, etc. are also in danger. In the dharma of the heart, the dharma is the dharma for making the family, the family, able to survive and continue the lineage for a long time. The Buddha showed four principles for implementation, namely:
1- Not knowing what is lost, knowing how to find it.
2. Knowing what is old, dilapidated, and worn out.
3. Parimitabanaphojana knows how to eat and use.
4. Athipasilavanasataphana appoints people with morals to be the head of the household.
The house is like a society and like a country, when there are bad leaders, the house, society, and country will inevitably be destroyed. The Buddha tells the story of the misfortunes and happiness of the householder who has been managing a family for a long time. Whatever he does, he shows people how to manage their affairs wisely, but it is an economy related to morality. It is said that people will become people with good morals only if they have food and drink to provide for their physical needs.
Buddhist business will help investment grow, promote economic growth
Buddhist business will help businesses grow, have harmony in doing business, investment, and create balance in business, which is a factor that promotes economic growth. This was stated by Ieng Sotheara, President of the Cambodia-Japan Trade and Investment Association, at a forum promoting business according to Kazuo Inamori's business philosophy on Sunday. Ieng Sotheara highlighted that factors that lead to successful business include thinking about prosperity, that is, thinking about increasing profits, increasing wealth, increasing roles, status and prosperity for the family, society as well as the environment. Increasing benefits, providing benefits to people, animals, plants and happiness refers to physical well-being, freedom from disease and mental well-being. According to Ieng Sotheara, Kazuo Inamori's business philosophy is a philosophy based on Buddhism. He took a part of the theory of Buddhism and transformed it to apply it directly to make him successful in life and business success. Through this philosophy, he can make a business that is close to bankruptcy run smoothly again and grow even more. Inamori's theory has attracted much attention after he helped save a Japanese airline that was close to bankruptcy and make it run better. Currently, Kazuo Inamori's business philosophy is mostly practiced in Japan, while China and other countries have also begun to implement some of this theory. In Cambodia, it is starting to spread. This is added by Mr. Ieng Sotheara. Kazuo Inamori is one of the most famous business leaders in Japan, having founded Kyocera Corporation and KDDI, and he is also the chairman of Japan Airline, leading the revival of the airline. His business philosophy is based on "Living in the right way as a human being." Inamori passed away in August 2022 at the age of 90. Dr. Mei Kalyan, Senior Advisor to the Supreme National Economic Council, said that after the dissemination of Kazuo Inam's philosophy ori has attracted more attention from those doing business in Cambodia than expected. He said that Kazuo Inamori's business philosophy is a good philosophy that helps people and society that business people in Cambodia should apply.
Dr. Mei Kalyan confirmed that Kazuo Inamori's business philosophy book has already been translated into Khmer and is ready to be published in the future.
Human morality is very difficult to exist if each person's personal economy does not progress or does not behave in a dignified manner. That is why the Buddha taught people to emphasize economics. Please note that the economic concept of the current benefits of the first Buddha, which is the effort to do business to create wealth, is related to the primary economic concept, which is Production. Because economics was born after Buddhism, about a thousand years ago. The second concept is knowing how to store the wealth that has been acquired and is related to the concept of saving wealth. The third principle is to be friendly, honest, intelligent, and helpful to each other. This principle is comparable to organizations, communities, and cooperatives that need to select individuals with high ideals among their members to lead as a governing body or board of directors within the framework of developing the lives of members by adhering to the common good. The last principle is to use and spend wealth in a way that is appropriate to one’s status or to live only on what is called the household budget for private individuals. If the state is called the nation’s economic budget, it is called the national budget. In short, it comes down to examining how income and expenditure are balanced, which is in line with the Buddhist term for a harmonious life as stated in the Dhamma, the current benefit. These dhammas are the source and a solid foundation for cultivating and sustaining global organizations, state organizations, and individual family organizations to develop and prosper. If any dhamma is lacking, those organizations will inevitably be in crisis.
In each state, there are many organizations such as economic, social, and political. If there is a lack of talent and a lack of talent, there is waste, there is no control over the place, there is always a constant, one person relies on another, remains in the office, relying only on paper and lists, the results of industry and trade will be damaged, and the economy will decline.
If there are these two dharma, but the third dharma is lacking, which is the good friend, there are relationships with sellers and buyers who are dishonest, there is fraud and deception for some reason, or there are corrupt associates who are in league with buyers or sellers, causing damage to the results of industry and trade, and the economy will decline. If the first, second, and third dharma are sufficient, and the fourth dharma is lacking, there is more expenditure than income, through waste or using too many employees due to inefficiency, which is an act that is done by only one person, we only do it with four or five people and it is not good anymore, or buying too much of one thing to get a percentage from the seller, while there is not enough money to buy other things, which leads to disruption of the industrial and commercial process, the economy must decline. When the economy declines because of lack of ability or because of being dishonest and trying to raise the price of goods to resist, it will cause even greater harm to the consumer society. This view of Dhamma has a broad meaning in all cases of the world's affairs, as the small point above has already been shown.
In terms of human education, Buddhism emphasizes the current life. It states the punishment of various destructions, the occupation that leads to punishment, the factors that are the means that lead to wealth and prosperity, and the path as a practical way to live in the current life, etc. We see in the Parabhava Sutta that Buddhism states the main causes of destruction as follows:
Dinnasila, sabhasila, anudhāta, chayo, noro, also, bhūdapāññā, tamparabhavatō, mukām. A person who is very lazy, lazy, loves to gather and talk nonsense, without effort, lazy, and then in the power of anger, anger, and anger, this is the way to bring that person to destruction. These are just a small part of the Buddha's precepts and Buddha's instructions, which we will only mention as examples in explaining the education of human society in today's life. So it can be seen that Buddhism does not only instruct people to think about the path to Nirvana, but Buddhism is also particularly interested in living in the present time of human society. We have already known that Buddhism is a religion that shows clear reasons. Before telling the results, Buddhism has told the causes. For example, all suffering is the result of doing various bad deeds with body, speech, and mind as the cause, while happiness and prosperity are the results that come from doing righteous, just, good deeds by fulfilling various merits and benefits as the cause. Because Buddhism has a theory with specific reasons like this, one-third of the people in the world respect and believe in it until today, believing that only Buddhism has a path to real peace, freedom, progress, and economic development. It is a religion with realistic theories. It is a religion that is scientific and a religion that does not coerce or deceive people's will. In this sentence, we see that in declaring his religion, the Buddha did not force the minds of beings to believe and practice.Without lacking wisdom or intelligence, he stated that before placing one's faith in something, one should think about the matter carefully and see the clear reasons first. Moreover, in governing his religion, the Buddha chose a path, the middle path, the path of practice, not too strict and not too loose. Above all, the Buddha did not consider himself a deity who could guarantee the merits and demerits of what people do. But he declared that "the Tathagata is only a guide," and that good or bad deeds are determined by the direct actions of each person, no one can take his place. As evidence, we see the Buddha's statement in one place: "Sudhi, asothi, bhaccatam, naanya, anyam, visodhaye." Purity and impurity are inherent in the self, and cannot be achieved by others. So it can be seen that Buddhism places great emphasis on the nature of karma, that is, every human action, whether good or bad, that a person does, must personally receive the results of those actions. People cannot go to pray to the Buddha to help accept or help reconcile, reconcile, or alleviate, or have rituals to wash away sins in any way like some religions. We have known that some other religions have their deities or gods who guarantee to receive sins on behalf of those who do them, or they also have rituals to wash away sins in the Ganges River, etc., which are not very consistent with the path of leading humanity of the Buddha, the Guru. Not only does Buddhism not receive the results of the merits and demerits that people do, but it also explains and educates people to be conscious in their current life tasks very clearly, as some of the chapters have already stated earlier. In this sense, we should not misunderstand that Buddhism has many theories only for monks to do tree stumps, for the elderly who are about to die, for practicing only for the sake of Nirvana, for making people less courageous or less realistic as a means for practitioners to achieve economic progress in their current lives. Our research has shown that Buddhism does not have theories only for monks or the elderly, and does not make practitioners practice only for the sake of Nirvana. In fact, Buddhism has revealed the means and instructions to educate people as Buddhists to have active activities, to understand the current life of people in many ways, that is, the activities of people who are done to live in the present, to avoid all evil deeds, to persecute others, etc., are the objectives of Buddhism. The circles that often criticize and accuse Buddhism of leading people to be weak, discouraged, and lacking in enthusiasm and courage in their work, which is the basis for the weakening of the economy to the point that some areas, especially Cambodian society, refuse to accept long-time monks as their children-in-law, believing that they are lazy and lazy people who work hard. This is because those circles have not studied, do not know the theory of Buddhism, do not know the purpose of Buddhism, and do not understand the depth of Buddhism clearly. According to the stories we have already studied, we have never seen any Buddhist teachings, sermons, or even a specific Yojana to cite as an example that Buddhism causes a lack of activity in work. We only see advice and discipline for people to strive, work hard, and endure hardships according to their own roles, both monks and laypeople. In the economic sector, such as industry and commerce, if all those in power in the world lack the first dharma, namely, laziness, laziness, not making an effort in their duties, being busy with each other, jealous of each other for their own interests, not trying to keep industry and commerce up to date, the economy cannot survive because there will still be lies, corruption, theft, embezzlement, bribery, and confusion in life. It is necessary to study and create classes to provide students with the level of moral education to study according to the path of truth, the third, fourth, and fifth, namely, right speech, right action, and right conduct, for many more years until they cultivate noble and pure conduct, which is called noble conduct.
Please note that all the dhammas in Buddhist theory, whatever they may be, such as the Three Realms, which Buddhists recognize as the Dharma of the Poor, the Dharma of the Sangveka for chanting the Dhamma of the Dead, are even more meaningful to the world than all the dhammas, because this world itself is a lower step for the one who stands firmly, only to rise to the higher level through successive steps until the final step, which is the path to Nirvana. For example, the three methods of study (Methodology) in Buddhist theory, which used to be called the Three Precepts and used to be understood as the highest level of Dharma for learning to go to the afterlife, are:
First, the study of ethics, which means studying from the zero point up to the noble precepts, which are the most noble and dignified in the world. It means starting to study, practice ethics, and conduct to be orderly since you are a baby and a child, before you can speak clearly. Your parents have taught you about family order, learning to answer yes and yes, respecting your elders, etc. Until you grow up, you go to school, and your teachers teach you to respect the rules of the school, the laws of the state, and the laws of religion, so that you can learn about morality and etiquette in the modern world, namely, to have a dignified speech, work, and livelihood. Studying only this much does not yet have a truly dignified and dignified conduct that can bring you peace, tranquility, and happiness.
