2. Effort: Effort to complete the task.
All kinds of work, if there is no effort, even if it is achieved, can be lost, and life will go backwards, no step towards prosperity, no escape from suffering. Effort: This effort can eliminate the six types of laziness: 1. Not working because it is morning. 2. Not working because it is evening. 3. Not working because I am very thirsty. 4. Not working because I am hungry. 5. Not working because it is hot. 6. Not working because it is cold. Lazy people always make these six excuses. That is why their work is never completed well, and they are always lacking in appearance and appearance. If you work in various ministries, you are often scolded by your boss because you go to work late, and you can almost be fired from your job. Effort is not only possible to achieve a livelihood. Even the path of liberation from attachment is also achieved through effort. That is why the Blessed One said in the Alavaka Sutta, “Viryana, dukkha, matchiti, ‘If you want to be free from suffering, you must strive’ for all kinds of work.
3. Mind: Attention to work. Some work, even if you are skilled, if you concentrate on it and do it with risk, it will be a failure. Even listening to the Dhamma, if you do not meditate, do not have the determination to listen well, it will surely be like pouring water on a duck’s head.
4. Vimumsa: the wisdom that considers in that work how the work is weak, how the work is progressing. All kinds of work are not achieved by just having strength, but only by having wisdom and intelligence to be achieved well. As the ancients said, “Knowing ten things is not equal to one.” These four dhammas In each content, all beings are urged to start building virtue without being discouraged by the obstacles in life.
After all, we have already seen the lively activity of the Supreme Buddha, the Supreme Teacher, who fulfilled the Buddha's work. Our Supreme Buddha, who fulfilled his efforts to become a Buddha, spent a total of 20 asankayas and 100,000 kapas, which are divided into 3 main stages:
1. Manopanithana (desire only in the mind) for 7 asankayas.
2. Vajipanithana (desire through speech) for 9 asankayas.
3. Kayavachimanopanithana (desire through body, speech, mind) for 4 asankayas and 100,000 kapas.
In the end, his efforts were successful, he realized the supreme consciousness and became an arahant on Wednesday, the full moon day. The month of Visakha, the year of the Ratcha, under the shade of a tree, in the morning, near dawn.
Or the five Buddhist duties are:
1. In the morning, the king visits him for alms.
2. In the afternoon, he gives sermons.
3. In the evening, he gives advice to the monks and nuns.
4. At midnight, he solves the problems of the Dharma that the gods ask during the time of the Buddha.
5. He observes the nature of living beings. These prove that as a Buddha leading the order of living beings, he is not indifferent to his mission. He is not enlightened and lives alone. He is seen as a very good example for Buddhists in general in the problems of living in human society. It also shows that people should have activities to struggle with nature, do things that are not sinful for the sake of living in the present and to build goodness as a step towards happiness and prosperity in the future. As for Buddhists, both monks and laypeople, he He also advised active activities: As monks and disciples, they must fulfill their duties according to their respective roles, study the Dhamma and the Discipline, the Three Disciplines, respect and practice the Dhamma in accordance with the Dhamma, learn both the Dhamma and the Vipassana, and the worldly knowledge that is not sinful, that is not sinful, etc., thoroughly. As laypeople, householders, they must know the Dhamma and strive to get up and do their work for their own benefit, the benefit of their family, the benefit of the nation, and the benefit of the religion. They must not be lazy and let time pass by without doing anything useful, citing various reasons such as it is too late, too early, too hot, too cold, etc., nor must they engage in various kinds of immoral acts, such as gambling, which are the causes of destruction. Therefore, we can say that Buddhism does not make people weak or lazy. Lazy or weak people are people who do not follow the teachings of Buddhism. The economy that will decline will not Yes, because of Buddhists, as explained in the next section. What we will be talking about here is not necessarily the Dharma that is beneficial and prosperous for practicing for the sake of worldly wealth, but we should talk about Buddhist theory related to worldly wealth, economy, etc., which is the Dharma for people to practice to live in the present. The Buddha, the Supreme Master, has the best talent in all areas, above all the wise men, both in the past and in the present, in solving the problems of human life, from small family societies to large societies, namely each country or the entire world, because he has the means to make the economy grow and prosper, and especially has the method to protect and preserve the economy to serve the needs of the people. The ancient and modern scholars in the universe, even though they have different specialties, have created spaceships to go to the moon and Mars, and created powerful atomic forces with the power of modern science. In the beginning, it was only the creation that was made, but it has not yet been seen that those scholars have any means to use the materials born from science to maintain security and peace to protect the economy and to survive. As we see today, they are using the materials born from modern science to destroy the world, to destroy the peace of people, to destroy the economy, and even to destroy human lives. First of all, the Khmer Republic has suffered in terms of economic products, materials, and the lives of innocent citizens, all due to the use of science that is not in accordance with the path of Buddhism. Because everything that Buddhism has prepared to be done is within the framework of non-violence and peace. Anything that conflicts with the security and peace of humans and animals is forbidden by Buddhism. Because the world has not applied Buddhist theory to the use of materials born from science, many countries in the world have encountered endless wars, conflicts, and conflicts. We have already seen from the beginning that Buddhism has educated people to be very interested in current life, that is, to make people love work. First, Buddhism taught people to work hard to do good work, whether it is agriculture, industry, or commerce. After the stage of producing fruits, Buddhism told another way, which is to know how to take care of the fruits that you have earned, so that they do not perish due to various reasons, such as theft, fire, loss by borrowing money, etc. Then, Buddhism explained to people how to associate with people who are good friends. Because association is a big thing, Buddhism requires Buddhists to make careful choices. As long as our association is not good, our economy or our profits will not be sure to become good. Furthermore, we must know how to share or spend the fruits that we have earned within the framework of a balanced life. We must not spend it well, uselessly, or on frivolous games. But we must not be stingy to the point of becoming stingy. That is, we earn a little and spend it less, and we earn a lot and spend it according to our resources. We know how to share some to make alms, save some to prevent various diseases, and spend some for food and consumption. This is the small nature of pursuing economics according to Buddhist theory. We see that Buddhism does not only teach people to earn, but also to spend it. Buddhism also educates and teaches people. Because wealth, no matter how much it is, if it is in the hands of the ignorant, it is no different from bricks, it seems to be a small amount. Why? Because foolish, ignorant, and unwise people do not use that wealth to do what is beneficial to themselves, their families, society, nation, and religious society. In other words, they often use that wealth in various frivolous ways. However, normally, if one knows how to use it, it can provide many benefits, such as creating electricity, creating fire for planting, and other things. However, if one does not know how to use it, it can cause many dangers, such as burns, burning houses, electrocution, etc. The same is true of wealth. If one knows how to use that wealth in a beneficial way, it can be seen to have a very broad range of benefits, including building, national, religious, etc. Since wealth can provide benefits and also provide punishment, this is why Buddhism, in its idea of wanting people to have a high standard of living, teaches about this life. Not only that, Buddhism explains the main causes of destruction, as we have seen in the Parabhava Sutta, and the precepts prohibit Buddhists from engaging in the five types of business, including the trade of weapons, drugs, poisons, etc., which are sinful businesses, and instructs people to engage in work that is right work, not wrong work, right business, not wrong business, that is, to avoid any action that brings other people and beings to suffer pain and suffering because of their own livelihood. These are good theories. For the implementation of the current livelihood of people, the basic right is for the economy to grow. In this article, we want to know how Buddhism and economics are related? What are the principles of Buddhism in making the economic sector grow. Does Buddhism weaken the economy, as some media opinions accuse and criticize? This first part showed us the principles of Buddhism in practice for current life. All kinds of occupations for doing daily life, including study and preaching, all kinds of knowledge are the source of happiness, good fortune, and success in this world, and they always depend on hard work, dedication, and strong physical and heroic deeds. Such efforts are called udhana sakshi (enrichment through effort).
This udhana sakshi is a powerful dharma that can make a person wealthy, because for this reason, the Supreme Teacher, the Three Worlds, has mentioned it as the head of all udhanas.
Where did the Buddha teach the poor or weak-minded? Those who criticize Buddhism in various ways are like ignorant people who try to shout that this world is very dark, this world has no light because they do not have the eyes of wisdom to study and research the contents clearly. Efforts to earn a living through agriculture are * Farming, by guarding This is raising cattle or livestock as a means of livelihood, by trade, by trading, by selling, by labor, etc., by earning a living through government work, according to the duties of the government, by handicrafts, by various crafts, by doing housework, etc. All these jobs for earning a living require effort and hard work in order to achieve benefits that can be clearly seen in the present; this is the first article called “the foundation of the ability to acquire knowledge.”
When wealth, food, and other valuable things arise in accordance with the right purpose, and continuous effort is made to gradually develop and practice the second ability, which is the ability to acquire knowledge.
