Thailand deviates from the path of Buddhism due to border conflict with Cambodia
Siem Reap: Thailand seems to have deviated from the path of Buddhism due to serious violations against Cambodia. This behavior is not appropriate for a country that respects Buddhism. According to Buddhist theory, the Buddha taught that believers must adhere to the "Five Precepts" in their daily lives to live happily, but Thailand has already begun attacking Cambodia. This has deviated from the first precept, which is not to harm the lives of others.
In addition, after the ceasefire came into effect, the Thai army arrested 20 Cambodian soldiers for violating the ceasefire and creating many false information to lie to its own people and the international community. This is a violation of the fourth precept, which is to prohibit lying. According to these two violations of the precepts, it shows that Thailand only adheres to Buddhism in appearance. While the practice is different from the teachings of the Buddha. This is according to the words of Venerable Uon Kong, a monk at Wat Prasat Indra, also known as Wat Kork Patri in Siem Reap.
It should be noted that the “Five Precepts” are the foundation of morality for Buddhists in their daily lives. The “Five Precepts” are the refraining from all evil deeds and help people live in peace, security, and create a society full of good morality.
The “Five Precepts” consist of five precepts:
Precept 1: Banatipata veramani - refraining from killing living beings.
Precept 2: Atinnatana veramani - refraining from stealing the property of others.
Precept 3: Kamesumicchacara veramani - refraining from sexual misconduct (adultery or abuse of children under guardianship).
Precept 4: Musavata veramani - Abstain from lying.
Precept 5: Suramerayamajapamadhana veramani - Abstain from intoxicants (wine, beer, drugs), which cause loss of consciousness.
