The way to harmony in human society, “Singalaka Sutta” Part 1
I will repeat it several times until the end, as a Dhamma collection for all of you, for your consideration and encouragement to come into practice to create good harmony as a blessing for yourself and for society. First, let me give you a summary of the Singalaka Sutta as follows:
On one occasion, the Blessed One was staying at the Veluvana Monastery (the Prey Russey Monastery, built by King Pimbisara) near the city of Rajagaha. At that time, a son of the king named Singalaka got up early in the morning, wearing a robe and a water-soaked headscarf, and went out of the city of Rajagaha, bowing his head to the four directions. In the early days, the Blessed One went to alms-giving and met Singalaka, the son of the king. He asked him, “Why do you worship the four directions?”
S. Venerable sir, when my father was about to die, he advised me thus: "Haiba, you must worship the directions." I, having honored, respected, and worshipped my father's words, have thus offered my prayers to the directions.
B. Nekahabatiputta, in the teachings of the Aryans, one should not worship the six directions in this way.
S. Venerable sir, in the teachings of the Aryans, how should one worship the six directions? May the Blessed One show me the Dhamma.
Now, the Dhamma is explained about the six directions…..
6 directions (to various types of people with whom we have social relations, as the directions around us - Disā: directions; quarters)
1. Puratthima-disā: parents as the east or direction in front)
A. Children should support their parents in the following ways:

In five ways a child should minister to his parents as the eastern quarter (saying to himself):
…… a) Having been supported by them I will support them in my turn.
…… b) I will do their work for them.
…… c) I will keep up the honour and the traditions of my family.
…… d) I will make myself worthy of my heritage.
…… e) I will make offering, dedicating merit to them after their death.

B. Parents always favor their children as follows:

In five ways his parents, thus served as the eastern quarter, show their love for him:
….. a) They keep him back from evil.
….. b) They train him in virtue.
….. c) They have him taught arts and sciences.
….. d) They arrange for his marriage to a suitable wife.
….. e) They hand over his inheritance to him in due time.

2-Direction - Right direction (South)

Direction 6 (Singalaka Sutta) 2nd time
I would like to present this as a Dhamma book to all my friends for consideration and guidance to create a good relationship that is a blessing for both myself and society…..
I still remember that when my teacher taught me about directions in class, he had students stand in front of the class, face east, then spread their hands to the right-left, also east-south-west-north directions as in the story of the 6 directions. When they came to study Buddhism (Singalaka Sutta), I thought that the teachings of my teacher in my time might be based on this Buddhism. For this second time, I also brought the English translation of the Pali Text Society of London, thinking that if any of my friends or respected masters wanted to read the English translation of the Pali Text Society, it would be easy to find and read it right away.
2. Dakkhiṇa-disā: teachers as the south or the direction in the right)
A. The student should perform the following acts of worship to the teacher in the right direction:

In five ways a pupil should minister to his teachers as the southern quarter:
…… a) by rising to receive them.
…… b) by waiting upon them.
…… c) by eagerness to learn.
…… d) by personal service.
…… e) by attentively learning the arts and sciences.

 B. The teacher usually favors the following students:

In five ways his teachers, thus served as the southern quarter, show their love for him:
…… a) They train him so that he is well-trained.
…… b) They teach him in such a way that he understands and remembers well what he has been taught.
…… c) They thoroughly instruct him in the lore of every art.
…… d) They introduce him to his friends and companions.
…… e) They provide for his safety and security in every quarter.
